Amador Hotel Restoration
We provided structural design services for the restoration of the historic Amador Hotel, a building with a legacy dating back to 1855. Over the years, the structure has transitioned from an adobe hotel to a bank and administrative offices. Recently, the city initiated a restoration project to restore the Amador Hotel to its original grandeur, recognizing its importance by listing ion the National Register of Historic Places and the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties. Stubbs Engineering played a pivotal role in this project, focusing on several key phases:
- Column Replacement: We strengthened the structure by replacing columns and footings in the lobby, enhancing load-bearing capacity with upgraded steel columns.
- Floor Replacement: The first-floor main hall received a new subfloor, preserving original elements while necessitating column and footing replacements.
- Structural Investigation: A detailed assessment was conducted after initial work to guide future planning, focusing on existing conditions and potential demolition considerations.
- Demolition: We developed shoring plans for ceiling and roof supports, reinforced structures during wall removal, and tackled challenges such as supporting voids left by stair removal.
- Second Investigation: As renovations progressed, we reevaluated the structural integrity to ensure alignment with the rehabilitation strategy.
- Renovations: Collaborated on site plans, layouts, elevations, and schedules to continuously transform the hotel, in partnership with the project team and city officials.
Through these efforts, we balanced modern upgrades with preserving the hotel's historical charm, contributing to the Amador Hotel's enduring legacy.
